Description : The oppidum of Marduel is due to the tribe of Volques Arécomiques . Occupation of the site is said to have started at the end of the Bronze Age and lasted nearly seven centuries. Known since the beginning of the xx th century, it was only in the 1980s that the most extensive excavations were undertaken. The main fortification encompasses more than 7 hectares. It is now largely hidden by vegetation but the informed walker will detect traces. Pits delivering witnessed a small metallurgy were reported for IV th - I st centuries on the oppidum of Marduel.
